Former Manchester United star Wes Brown declared bankrupt

Former Manchester United star Wes Brown was reputedly earned a salary of £2.6 million per year during his playing time but was still deemed bankrupt. The High Court reportedly issued a bankruptcy decision for Wes Brown.

After news broke that Brown earned about £50,000 per week while playing for the Red Devils in the Premier League, the High Court officially recognized his bankruptcy on April 12.

HMRC filed a bankruptcy filing in February naming Brown as the debtor.

It was later confirmed last week by the High Court. Before departing the team in 2011 to join Sunderland, the former defender made his United debut in 1998. He played in more than 200 games during that time.

Brown joined Manchester United’s academy in 1992 when he was 12 years old, and here is where he began his professional career. He turned pro in 1996, made his professional debut in 1998, and over the course of the club’s Treble-winning 1998–99 season, he became a semi–regular first-team member.

Brown started playing frequently for the first team again in 2000 after being sidelined for an entire season due to injury. Over the next eight years, he won numerous accolades, including four additional Premier League titles, an FA Cup, a League Cup, and another Champions League.

Former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson proclaimed Brown to be “without a doubt, the best natural defender this club has had in years.”After 15 years, Brown was allowed to quit Manchester United and join Sunderland.

Brown has made 23 appearances for England since making his debut at the senior level in 1999. Notably, he went to Japan and South Korea with the England team for the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Brown made his international debut in 1999 against Hungary, and despite spending the majority of his time on the bench, he was selected for Sven-Göran Eriksson’s selection for the 2002 World Cup.
