Samuel’s life was cut short when he was kidnapped and his remains were later discovered near a swamp in Louisiana. McKay got kidnapped when his parents left him at home for a meeting. Upon returning from an Amway meeting, Samuel’s parents, Carl Everett, and Paulette Everett Norman, were devastated to find their home empty. They sought help from their neighbors and initiated a search. Soon after, Samuel’s father received a call from a woman demanding a ransom of $500,000 for his safe return.

After six days, Samuel’s remains were found near the swamp in Louisiana. investigations indicated that he had suffered from severe torture, and an autopsy confirmed that he had been shot twice in the head and chest using a .45 caliber pistol, which led to his untimely death. During the investigation, it was revealed that Hilton Crawford, who was involved in the same Amway program as Samuel’s parents, played a role in the crime.
Further inquiries led the authorities to a woman employed by one of Hilton’s previous businesses, who admitted to making the ransom call on behalf of her former employer. Hilton Crawford was subsequently arrested and charged with kidnapping. In court, Hilton claimed to have been present during Samuel’s murder but alleged that another person named R.L. Remington was responsible for the fatal shots. However, there was insufficient evidence to support this claim, resulting in Hilton’s conviction for capital murder in 1996 and his subsequent death sentence.
